Congrats and Happy Birthday!

Brain cancer is...

celebrating our family.

Sue, our soon-to-be co-parent, came down from Carpinteria on the train today to celebrate.

This is our first time together to celebrate Summer and Zachary's engagement, and it's her birthday! The fun started with Del Taco on the patio for lunch, above.

Click here for a slideshow of the day unfolding to a pleasant end with dinner at the Yard House.

Here's to family!

21 Months and Looking Up

Brain cancer is...

...having another great day.  No surprise.

Our day started on a high note with Christine's banana bread.

Darrell's blood test went well, and results show that his cancer-suppressed levels continue on their creeping crawl back to non cancer levels.

Today is 21 months post diagnosis.

This afternoon Darrell called me out to look at the sky.

Thanks, Darrell, for the reminder.  Let's keep looking up.

Spontaneous Tuesday

Brain cancer is...

...loving being close enough to kids to spend the day together.

Alex called Darrell last night for a lunch invite in the Inland Empire for his day off today.  Heck yeah!  We enjoyed his choice, the State.

We missed Tiana, who was at work today (Everyone works!), but we are glad to hear that they are settling in well at the IE.  Nice views for sure!

Happiness.

Oh, and we received a fun reminder from Google.  Apparently a year ago today we took this photo:

Alex and Tiana were out on residency interviews, and we were hanging with Beowulf while breaking our vacation day record in the mountains.

More happiness.

Don't Let the Sun Go Down...

...on Packer nation.

Brain cancer is...

...singing Elton John's Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me.

Originally Darrell's intention was to discover what time the sun would set today to plan his pre-game barbecue (4:54 p.m. by the way).

At that time, his song was endearing.  However, despite all of our dairy product rituals...

...Darrell's tune became a soulful lament of a painful Packer loss to the Detroit Lions.  We'll get you next time, Ryan!

Earlier in the day, the epic coffee spot adventure continued.  Ruth found the International Coffee House in Brea.

Fewer football losses.  More friends.  More coffee.  More Darrell singing.

A Master of Disguise

Brain cancer is...

...hard to recognize on the street.

Well, that's not quite right.  People on many streets recognize Darrell, but only if he is not wearing one of his several disguises.

To remind you, in past posts (click the links), Darrell has disguised himself as:
Look who greeted me at the breakfast table this morning.

Yes, it was that enigmatic figure brought to us by Leonardo daVinci:

The lady with an ermine.

That Darrell!

Cancer Eradication Efforts

This week we begin gearing up for next week's "thin slice MRI" with blood work.  Go Super D, go.

The Grass Is Always Greener...

...If one stays away from the computer station.

Brain cancer is...

...mighty proud of Darrell's post-drought restored lawn!

Happy Saturday, Team D.

Lonely

Brain cancer is...

...looking at the back of Andi's head.

Darrell says:  "We can't wait until the presentations, grading, and online writing conferences are over."

Can he get an "Amen"?
