"What a Difference a Day Makes!"

 Brain cancer is...

...having an amazing day.

This morning, Beth said, "What a difference a day makes!"  Right Team D?  Yesterday versus today?

We got to talking and realized also...What a difference a year makes.

Here's today:

Here's last year, same time:

Recognize?  We were enjoying each other's company in Grand Cayman.

What a difference a year makes!

Thinking of you, your day, and your year, Team D!

Vacation Squared

Brain cancer is...

...glad the Szabos are here for the snow party.

Darrell awoke this morning saying, “We are having vacation ON vacation. Vacation squared!”

Yay for friends! Yay for predicted snow parties!

Happy Friday, Team D!

Hunkering

 Brain cancer is...

...hunkering.

We're still listening to election returns, and the weather is changing.  There's a good chance that snow will hit this weekend, which is perfect timing for Beth and Geoff to join us.

We decided we'd better start hunkering now.

Hunkering led to two discoveries today:

We brought up mismatched weights.  I think it would be better to just avoid working out than to develop potentially lopsided musculature.  Darrell is developing work arounds.  I say, "better safe than sorry."

Team D is appreciating Shadow, the black bear footstool.  (We know its name is Shadow because it came with a name tag. Of course.)

Gail thought maybe Shadow could learn to roll over, if we exercise loving patience in our instruction.  Here's how it's going so far.

Happy Hunkering, Team D!

How to Spend Post Election Wednesday

Brain cancer is...

...happily distracted.

Surprise! Beowolf, Nova, and Alex came up to pass the day after the election with us.  It was Nova’s first time at the lake, so of course we needed our picture at the point, above.

Nova would probably say the highlight was lunch at 572 Social.  She loved the vibe...and her lunch.

We also walked near the lake.

Our  bear footstool, which jumped into our car when we bought the new bed, felt like an impulse buy...until Nova gave full approval.

When it comes to listening to election returns, together is definitely better than separate.

South to Mexico

 Brain cancer is...

...seeing more of the Pacific Crest Trail.

Darrell had the great idea of avoiding news feeds on Election Day, so he planned today to treat me to a new chunk of the PCT.

We started at the same trailhead as last time (Onyx Summit), but this time we headed south instead of north. Four miles out, four miles back.  It was perfect.

Here’s a video, made with iMovie. I don’t like the tight cropping, but I’ll get the hang of it.

This picture of a young voter (Bennett) voting in our presidential election gives us hope.

All our best!

Acclimated

 Brain cancer is...

...all settled in.

Literally.  Settled in.  In our 35+ years of marriage, we can't remember ever going to a mattress store and trying them out to buy a new bed.  Until today!

Above you see us test driving the model that we chose and had delivered.  We plan on sleeping like we're in a hotel tonight.

We did some miles at the lake.  It's definitely fall here.  The sky and lighting are spectacular.

We don't know anyone who isn't anxious about tomorrow's election.  We're thinking of you, Team D, and no matter what happens, we're in this together!

"Acclimate Day" and "Bonus Hour" Collide!

Brain cancer is...

...appreciating an extra long day of doing nothing...

...except hanging out with people we love.  At a distance.  As per usual.

The first full day at the cabin is always Acclimate Day to give our bodies a chance to get accustomed to the elevation.  Darrell woke up--late because it's also "Bonus Day," with the clocks set back--saying, "We need to work out today.  Oh wait.  We can't.  It's Acclimate Day."  Hoorah for Acclimate Day!

Hoorah, too, for Steve and Gwen Rudney who spent some nice time during Acclimate Day with us on Zoom.  (Above.  Even though it looks like it, no one was under water OR on the moon during the call.  My lighting was just bad.)

We haven't been with the Rudneys since that tradition of the past: Dining in Westwood (2017, here) during a UCLA cancer visit.  It was so good to pick up friend, family, and work threads, with the years just disappearing.

We also spent time virtually enjoying Beth's Murrieta sunset:
And Melanie's view in the Opus One vineyards.

Melanie does a great job not bragging about the places she "gets stuck" when her plane breaks down.

Happy Bonus Hour/Acclimate Day Team D!  It won't happen again for...at least one whole year!
