Settling into the Cabin Adventure Routine (CA19-05)

Brain cancer is...

 ...making ourselves at home.

But first...

 The Story of Cabin Adventure

We realize that some longtime readers may need a Cabin Adventure refresher, and we have some new readers. Sorry that we jumped right into the Adventure without explanation.  Here's the story of Cabin Adventure.

With Darrell's 2016 diagnosis, we shifted our priorities and decided to set a goal of doing things we've never done before.  Beating our record of how long we stay at the cabin in one stretch was one such new thing.  Hence the birth of Cabin Adventure.

  • Back in 2016, Cabin Adventure was 11 days long.  (Here's a link to that post.)
  • Apparently 2017 held so many adventures that we skipped Cabin Adventure.
  • In 2018, we beat our 11-day record with a 17-day stay.  (Here's a link to the post.)
Seventeen days away from home!  Brave territory for us indeed!  For Cabin Adventure 2019, we are aiming for a 21-day stay.  Have you ever been away from "home" for 21 days?  We would never have imagined it in Life 1.0.  And frankly, Darrell is worried we accelerated our current goal too quickly, jumping from 17 to 21 days.  I am unafraid.

Settling In to the Adventure Routine

One thing we've learned from past Cabin Adventures is that it takes several days for the stay to stop feeling like a vacation and to start feeling like an awesome version of home, with its own routines in addition to its novelties.  Today feels like that day.

Above you see Darrell hanging out on our walk.  No, he wasn't cold in his shorts.  Look at that sky.  Also, today had less wind than any previous day.  The plants held still enough that I could finally get a close up.

Our rhythm is breakfast with a forest view, a walk somewhere beautiful, and chores together.  In the afternoon we work:  Andi at "work stuff" and Darrell at "cabin stuff."  Evenings are dinners in and movie time, holding hands by the fire.

One of today's novelties is that we saw hundreds of Monarch butterflies, never more than 2 or 3 at a time, including at our lake walk, in town, and at home.  Maybe they are preparing for the predicted rain and snow.

Hope you're enjoying your Monday too, Team D!

LuAnn's Luck

LuAnn shared this picture from her walk today.  She felt fortunate as she welcomed snowdrops.
