The Anti-Plan Day

Brain cancer is...

...list less, which is not the same as listless.

In our continued efforts to figure out how to be together while not working and in the absence of immediate medical crises, last night upon retiring, we decided that today would be the anti-plan day.

Not easy.
"Shall we go for a walk this morning?" (Sounding plan-like.  Urrgh.)
"Sure, but let's have breakfast on the patio first."  (Good save!)
"Not that we're planning, but if anyone ever goes to the store again, I need beets."  (Doh!)
"How about you start packing for the UCLA trip?" (Smacking, again, of a plan.)
"No!  You're not the boss of me!" (Anti plan!  And sassy/spicy!)

We figured it out by about 2:00 p.m.  Then we loved it. We'll add more anti-plan days to our future to-do lists.

What picture to post on the anti-plan day?  A random pic!

  1. I wouldn't know where to begin with an anti-plan Andi. Looking to you, my mentor still, for wisdom!

  2. Some of our more effective anti-plan days really get a kickstart from anti-plan food actions. Restaurants, food stores, ingredients, meal, or even where, how, and when you eat is territory that sends messages to your brain that it's adventure time.

Also getting in a car and driving WITHOUT a plan to WHERE really makes the impromptu actions flow.

  4. I also highly recommend you guys become Situationists and go on a Dérive

  5. Ok, Charlene! Yours was definitely the most concrete assistance we received on anti-planning. Loved the link to "Situationists" going on a Dérive. And OF COURSE Darrell loves any movement deemed "radical." It's actually fitting; we conclude that anti planning is indeed a radical action.

Donna: You are not alone! Except for Charlene (above) and one other Team D member, we are all neophytes at anti planning.

Here's one suggestion to get you started, from our one day's experience: Do whatever you want the very minute you want to. It doesn't matter what sort of label others would give the activity. Just do it if you feel so moved. For instance: I decided to pick up rocks in my front yard, left over from the concrete pours for the kitchen remodel. Very satisfying. : )
