"This never gets easy."

Brain cancer is...

 ...making the best of it.

Scanxiety?  Two servings, please.  The title of this post is in quotes because it represents recent words from a friend similarly facing a GBM scan.  This never gets easy.

Scanxiety, as it typically does, kicked in for Darrell as soon as he got Cancer Course going, with the blood work.  When he realized that the anxiety about "tomorrow" was diminishing the quality of his "today," Darrell got busy. I am proud of him for taking positive, assertive action, thinking his way through the situation, focusing on the day and the people he loves, making our plans.

Darrell's scan is tomorrow morning.   With all the work he did up to this point to dispel anxiety, we're just welcoming the emotions and rolling with them today.  He deserves (we deserve) one day of anxiety, like a free pass, we figure.  Here are examples from today, which we share to provide some insight into how it feels for us:
  • Even though we planned to sleep late today, we got up early with Darrell checking the answering machine message (again) to confirm tomorrow's scan time.  It's (still) 8:00 a.m.
  • He has taken his temperature (about six times).  So far so good--above.
  • He's feeding us Airborne, so we can stay well (for 18 hours).

  • I have our bag packed, with a Ziploc for arrays, an extra battery, a jacket, and reading materials (because tomorrow is soon and two hours at the Cancer Center are long).
  • I have taken our wedding rings and stowed them (because if you're not not ready early, you're late).

So, truly, I give a shout out to Darrell Guillaume, the Scan Man, for how he handled the stress of yet another MRI of his brain.

And in addition to all the work he did for the scan, he moved throughout the day's routine.  Check it out.

You think you know what happened after this picture was taken, right?

Maybe not.  Check your prediction here:

And he supported me with my book club meeting.  You know our friends from other contexts, but here are the Huggers (top: Kristine; bottom:  Michelle and Christine), studying Brown's The Gifts of Imperfection together. Earl Gray Tea by Darrell.  Thank goodness for those Huggers.

Finally, Darrell continued with his one-click habits:

The Duraflame company probably deserves a place on Team D.

See, all that, and he has a scan in the morning.  Way to make it...easier...Darrell!

Love, light, and energy to all, loved ones, as you address the concerns in your own lives too.  We are with you, as you are with us.
