Great Wall Walkers

Brain cancer is...

...finished with a 5,500-mile walk.

Today we squelched along on another rainy walk.  Midway through, I looked down at my phone, wiped off the screen, and received great news from our Fitbit: We hit 5,500 lifetime (since 12/16) miles.  Wahoo!

Our Great Wall of China news gave us things to talk about for the rest of the walk.  Here are the questions we considered.

Q:  When did we hit 5,000 miles?  (A:  Three months ago.)
Q:  How many miles have we walked, on average, during those three months then?  (A: 167 miles/month)
Q:  If it took us this long just to walk the length of the wall, how long did it take to build it?
Q:  Who built it?
Q:  How many died building the wall?
Q:  Were the deceased workers buried in the wall?

Back at home, we found a great, concise video (just 2 minutes) on the History Channel to answer our questions, above.  (Here's the link.)

One thing we learned is that our 5,500-mile segment is just the portion of the wall built during the Ming Dynasty.  The entire network that constitutes the wall(s) is 13,300 miles.

Darrell says he's up for it.  I guess I'll tag along.  Join us?

Square Inches of Silver Lining

The sky did in fact clear enough for us to glimpse the pink super moon last night.  Here's a shot from our driveway:
 Very large and bright indeed.

We checked on the moon every 15 minutes for potential increased clarity.  In the end, the rain chased us back indoors.  Here are the final four seconds of our super moon vigilance:

More time spent with Darrell, who always makes me (us) laugh?  Definitive silver lining!
