Celebrating Alex's Residency

Brain cancer is...

celebrating Alex's graduation from residency.

Blogger Andi writing today.

How many more milestones can we handle?  Here's another important one!

You see us, above, walking with Kristine, Keiva, and Christine (keeping safe social distancing).  You see Darrell's and my shirts too, right?  They are the Loma Linda Emergency Department shirts that Alex gave to us when he entered his residency at Loma Linda University.  We wore them in his honor because today...he graduated!

We made it home from the walk in time to catch Alex's talk at the final ceremony, Grand Rounds, on Zoom.

Dear Alex,
It's been quite the journey.  Do you remember that you and Tiana were in med school in Florida when you got word of Dad's diagnosis?  Do you remember that he made the brave choice of Optune in order to hang around long enough to see the two of you graduate?  (Fittingly, yesterday was Dad's 4-year Optuniversary.  Wow. Forget those predicted three to five "extra" months.)  Do you remember the white coat ceremony in Pennsylvania?  And then the Pub Crawl on Match Day, when you got the news that you and Tiana would be coming home for residency?   And now this part of your journey is over.

When we watched your speech today, we couldn't have prouder of the doctor--and more importantly--of the person you have become.  Onward!

Congratulations.
